Allergic Asthma

Allergic Asthma

Allergic asthma is a type of asthma that is triggered by exposure to allergens such as pollen, dust mites, animal dander, and mold. It is estimated that up to 90% of children with asthma have allergic asthma, and about half of adults with asthma have an allergic component to their disease. The immune system overreacts to the presence of allergens in the airways, causing inflammation and narrowing of the airways. This leads to symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.
